Dr. Stanley's Prayer for Sutherland Springs

Faith in a Time of Mourning

Please join us in praying for those grieving the loss of loved ones and friends in the shooting at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. My heart is heavy as I think about the many victims who lost their lives so senselessly.

When such unexplainable things happen and we want to know “why” God allowed this tragedy, our Heavenly Father knows and understands our questions. But, despite everything, we can know for certain that God is in control. He never promised to explain everything this side of heaven, but still, He wants us to lay our burdens at His feet, placing our trust in Him. Psalm 18:2 declares, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Therefore, as we lift up our brothers and sisters in Sutherland Springs, please be sure to pray that they will cling to Christ even more closely in this time of mourning. Likewise, ask God to rebuild First Baptist in the way only He can—stronger, with greater faith, and with a light that shines even brighter in our world.
